Sample class descriptions

One of the things that sets Yoga Seven apart is the variety of teaching and class styles we offer. We do not work to a formula. Each teacher has a different background and different training, and will bring their own unique personality and experience to their classes. We believe this is important so each person can find a teacher and class that connects with them and allows them to get the most out of their bodies and minds.

Yoga

Deep Stretch

Suitable for all levels, this class is based on the gentle style of Hatha yoga and includes postures that combine deep stretching with breathing patterns. You will slow down the body and mind as you focus on the soothing and restorative qualities of the breath. You’ll move through asanas (poses) designed to help you relax and lengthen the body while relieving stress and tension. 

Flow & Stretch

Suitable for those with at least a little yoga experience, this all-level class combines flowing postures, breathwork, and deep, juicy stretching of all major muscles and connective tissues to release tightness in your body. 

Gentle Hatha

Suitable for beginners, those healing from an injury or working with other physical challenges, and even seasoned practitioners looking for a slow-moving and more reflective practice. This slow-paced class offers basic postures, stretches, and some smooth flowing movement. Expect both floor-based and standing poses as you develop strength, flexibility, and balance. Learn how to use props and modifications to experience poses on a deeper level and help bring the body back into balance.

Hatha

Suitable for those with at least a little yoga experience, in this alignment-based class you will hold physical postures while incorporating breathwork and a mind-body connection. Each teacher brings his or her own experience to the class to make it special so the class may also include flowing poses; focusing on a theme or a specific area in the body; or building towards a peak pose. Expect to improve your flexibility, core strength, balance, concentration, and mindfulness. 

Hatha Strong

This challenging Hatha class is best suited to more experienced yogis. Expect to flow or hold physical postures while incorporating breathwork and elements of fitness to develop core strength. 

Slow Flow

Suitable for those with at least a little yoga experience, this juicy all-level flow class focuses on integrating breath with movement. 

Vinyasa Flow

Suitable for those with some yoga experience, Vinyasa is a flowing, dynamic form of yoga where postures are linked together using breath. In this flow class you will focus on breathing, alignment, and strength building as you work towards advancing your practice. 

Yin

Suitable for those with at least a little yoga experience, Yin yoga practice enhances the natural range of motion in the joints and connective tissues, complementing the more active Yang lifestyles we tend to lead. This all-level class includes deep release and relaxation achieved through floor-based supported poses typically held for 3 to 5 minutes. You will learn to find comfort and stability in poses according to your own body structure and flexibility. If indicated, the class may end with calming meditation and breathwork to help reduce stress and anxiety, allowing us to relax and rest deeply. You’ll finish feeling centered, calm and relaxed. 

Yoga with Poles

Suitable for all levels, this is a fun Hatha yoga class using a pole (danda in Sanskrit, meaning stick or staff, as in the pose name Dandasana)Discover how a pole can help improve posture alignment and increase your flexibility, as well as acting as a support in standing poses, to increase strength with balance training.  

Restorative

Have you ever wanted to stay longer in Savasana? This all-level class begins with a gentle hatha sequence to help open the body in preparation for longer holds that stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and nourish the body from head to toe. Restorative yoga is a delicious surrender into quiet, soothing postures that incorporate bolsters and blankets. With the support of props, students can achieve poses without muscular strength, facilitating release and relaxation that will calm the nervous system and melt away built-up tension. Breathing techniques and meditation may also be used in the practice. This class is a perfect way to de-stress, leaving you feeling relaxed, renewed and rested.

Fitness

Barre with a chair

Suitable for all levels, this is a fun and dynamic class infused with elements of ballet, yoga, core, flexibility and strength training. Using a sturdy chair instead of a ballet barre, you will be guided through a series of exercises that focus on small, controlled movements, isometric holds and high repetitions to help shape your body from every angle. Currently offered virtually only.

Breathe, Stretch & Strengthen

Suitable for those with at least a little yoga experience, this mat Pilates-inspired class is deeply focused on breathwork and body awareness, incorporating heart rate variability and safe repetitive movements.  A full body practice with options for beginner to advanced yogis.  Release tension and improve your core strength, balance, and flexibility; then wind down with a deep relaxation experience to leave you feeling relaxed and clear for the day ahead.

Mat Pilates

Mat Pilates is a total-body conditioning routine designed to build strength; correct body alignment and posture; restore muscular balance; improve mobility, coordination and flexibility; and create long, lean and toned muscles. The focus is on your “powerhouse” or core (abdominals, pelvic floor, lower back, hips, and gluteus muscles). When strengthened, these work together to create a stable foundation for all movement. This low-impact mat class is performed on the floor, consisting of small controlled movements, breath work, and working with your own body weight and gravity. All levels welcome: no previous mat Pilates experience is necessary.

Yoga with Weights

 Get a strong, lean, sculpted body in your own home with this dynamic strength-training yoga class using hand weights.

Nordic Pole Walking

Take a clinic to learn about this great form of exercise, or bring your own poles and join our community to explore some of Port Credit’s most beautiful and walkable areas. This urban fitness adventure is excellent for those seeing social connection, nature, improved body awareness and posture and a lower-impact cardiovascular workout. 

Recurring workshops

Yoga Basics Refresher Series

For those with limited yoga experience or coming back after a break and needing a refresher,  this series of four weekly 90-minute workshops to explore basic yoga poses and sequences. Each week will focus on a different selection of poses, providing guidance on proper alignment as well as options for those whose bodies don’t always want to cooperate.  Click here for more information and to see when the next series is scheduleld. 

On-demand video

Available only to those with a monthly Prana Warriors membership, our growing on-demand video library contains a mix of recorded 1-hour livestreamed classes and pre-recorded focused content (15-, 20-, 30-, and 60-minute sessions) such as lunchtime stretches, evening wind-down, morning movement, hips and shoulders, HIIT sessions, mat Pilates sessions, guided meditations and more. Take a class wherever you are, whenever you want.
