Whether your lil’ ball of energy is new to the mat or a seasoned yogi, these playful sessions will introduce children to yoga through creative storytelling, games, and group sharing activities. Focusing on fun yoga postures, meditation, breathing exercises and basic relaxation techniques to promote strength and flexibility, improve concentration, enhance a positive self-image and give children tools they can use to cope with stress, anxiety and regulate emotions. Classes will have a maximum of 12 participants to ensure every child has time to share and be heard.
WEEK 1: This class fuses yoga poses, mindfulness activities, games, music and stories to promote strength, flexibility, self awareness, and self esteem. Breathing techniques help teach children to focus, relax, and develop self-regulation. Dynamic and high energy, this class will hook your little one into the power of yoga movement and energy.
WEEK 2: Kids are empowered to review previous learning and create their own yoga card using a helpful template. They can use a pose they learned in the previous session or make up a pose of their own. They are given the reins to teach their pose to the rest of the group, harnessing their inner leader and little yoga teacher.
WEEK 3: Introduction to Partner Yoga. During this class, kids will play partner and group yoga games where they use existing social and emotional knowledge and develop relationship and communication skills to solve problems and learn more yoga poses. Lots of fun as we tumble and share through gentle touch and consent-based contact.
WEEK 4: Introduction to Laughter Yoga. Kids will laugh their way towards bliss with fun yoga games that use props, visual narrative, and storytelling to have everyone in stitches.
WEEK 5: Introduction to Mindfulness for little people. This introduction of fun mindfulness activities may include the “dancing pencil” meditation, the “What would Yoda do?” meditation, the “roller coaster fingers” meditation and more. These moving meditations, where breath and body are harmonized, teach little ones to observe emotions with a calm body and mind.
WEEK 6: Little Yogis’ Graduation! Parents are invited to a tea party as we graduate our little yogis. Kids are encouraged to bring their favourite stuffed animal or toy to share this fun experience.
